soyo p4rc350 compatible processor?

hi ive was given a soyo p4rc350 motherboard and was wondering if a 1.7 celeron (W) 400 fsb would work with it? I read the manual and it said it was prescott ready, but shouldn't older processors work? I went ahead and tried but I got nothing when I powered up...now the onboard ati video is a northbridge chipset, should that make a difference? im very confused because i thought it would work fine.
