I was planning to get the Asus until I stumbled upon the cheaper Soyo which according to the reviews has the stability of the Asus and the tweakability of the Abit. So now my curiosity has peaked and im looking for any input to sway my decision =)

Thanks

Neither of these mobos supprts Slot A TBIRDS correctly so I assume that you have a classic Athlon ?? If you have a TBIRD, I believe that the Soyo might have a little better support for TBIRDS, but not much.

Yes I have a classic Athlon 800mhz. Every time I tell someone this they look at me like im nuts? Is this unusual or something? LOL

Anyways the main reason I just want to upgrade from my OEM supplied K7M to get away from the AGP 1.0 because I believe that combined with the crappy HP bios and my GeForce2 GTS is whats causing some trouble in games for me. So im basically just looking for something that will get me by until im ready to spend some cash and get a socket a board and processor.

Is there a better solution than either of these 2 boards? My biggest concern being stability in games.

I found the K7M to also be very unstable playing certain games. I switched to the Asus K7V and have had no problems ever since.....

My apartment has one of each. The K7V has much better performance than ANY other KX133 motherboard. The Soyo board can hit higher fsb's better (ie 112 fsb) whereas the two K7v's that I've had couldn't even run at 110 without a random crash here and there.

So your saying the K7V is a better performer even though you cant clock it as high without it crashing? This makes me wonder if its that close to the edge stability wise if I might be safer with the Soyo? The overclocking would be nice but I am definitely more concerned with overall stability.

Are there any other Slot A boards that I should be considering as well?

I'm goign to order it Monday and basically whatever gets the most votes here is what I will be getting so thanks for your input =)

Stability wise, i can't really tell the difference. I tested this soyo K7via and it can boot into windows at 120 mhz fsb but the k7v can't even post at 120 on both of mine. that doesn't mean it's more stable. some ka7's could reach a 133 fsb but at 100 mhz, it wasn't as stable. If you are going to use a big cooler, such as the VOS32, the K7v will only hold one RAM slot. the cooler fits in a k7via really easily. Some people don't like where the floppy connector is placed but i like it because all the cables are not so concentrated in the same area.

Found a Soyo at the CompUSA by my house but they want 140 dollars for it! I thought the Soyo sold for less than a hundred? I see some Soyo k7vias at pricewatch for 65 bucks! Are all these boards the same ie could this 65 dollars be a ripoff in some way?

Hmm Looks like im leaning to the Soyo now...it seems a good cheap solution til im ready to get a tbird. =)
