Soyo K7V Dragon Plus won't boot...

Well...
First I tried building my new computer with an ECS K7S5a, which ended up DOA. RMAed that board, got a Soyo K7V Dragon Plus... and this one
doesn't boot either! I've tried clearing the CMOS without anything happening. Originally, I used to get a beep when I had the modem
connected. All I have now is the CPU (Athlon XP 1600+), RMA (Crucial 256mb DDR, 2.5CAS, non-ECC), and video card (Gainward GeForce 2
Ti/500). I've tried a different video card, Voodoo 3 2000, on the PCI slot and I get nothing. I tried booting without the CPU, I got nothing.
I tried booting without the RMA, and nothing. I tried isolating the motherboard from the case, becuase the manual suggested that one possible
reason was contact with the case. And of course, nothing. The green LED on the motherboard lights up, everything powers up, there's no
beep, and the LED on the LAN port lights up. I can power up, but the only was to turn it off is to pull the plug or turn off the power supply
button on the back.

The very first boot was kind of scary. I had almost everything in it, because I just expected it to work. I heard a loud pop sound all of the
sudden, and I cut off power through the power supply button. I checked all my hardware, and everything looks fine - no burn marks, nothing.
But... there were TWO LEDs lit up on each side of the LAN port, now all I see is one night on one side of the LAN port. It looks like that was
the pop. I'm using an Enermax 350w power supply, EG365P-VE-FC, and I'm wondering if the power supply might be the culprit. I tried a
different power supply on the mobo w/ RAM, CPU, and vide card - but I still got nothing.

Can anyone please help me...:(

do you have a fan pluged into fan header 1 ? safety feature of the bios. you can turn it off after you get in there.
good luck

The soyo dragon+ mobo must have a 3-wire fan connected to the CPU_FAN1 connector to boot. You should hear a long beep and then power off after about 3 secs. Make sure that is not the problem.
I'd suggest you to try booting with CPU and RAM only, no VGA, and have a speaker connected. You should hear the speaker beeping for the "no VGA" code. If you don't have RAM or don'g have VGA and hear no beeps, then the problem must be the CPU or the Motherboard. If you can get your hands on another board, test your cpu there. Good luck

Well, I tried getting a beep with just the CPU and the RAM, and I didn't. That narrows it down to the CPU or the motherboard. I'll be able to get
my hands on another board in a short while to test out the CPU. However, I'm wondering if my power supply is the source of the problems,
becuase my previous mobo (ended up RMAing, it wouldn't boot at all), and ECS K7s5a is supposedly picky about the type of power supply
it uses. Is there any way to test my power supply? I imagine it's not bad - but who knows... I'm also wondering if I'm burning out the headers
on my mobo or causing some severe power draing by using the fan headers on my mobo. I've heard of people being afraid to burn out their fan
headers on a mobo and wanting to connect to a 4-pin source, but I don't know why... One last question, can I try getting the motherboard to
boot without CPU or RAM and see if I get a beep? That way, I'd know it was the CPU and not the mobo.

Well, not sure if this would work, but if your fan uses a 4 pin connector, just take a jumper and connect the + and - of the fan header, it might want a signal though.....have you ever gotten a beep, this sounds sorta weird, no beeps or anything.....heh, i just ordered a k7v+ myself, hope it doens't turn out like this, heh, good luck!

well if it was just the fan header not picking up the fan signal it would at least still try to start up.
i'm betting chips bad , but my lotto picks show how good i am...
good luck

Can anybody tell me how I can test my power supply? I'm thinking it might be the cause of the K7V+ going belly up in the first place. To me,
it's looking like an RMA so far.
