Soyo DYLM24DL dead

Last night I was playing TF2 when all of sudden my 6 month old 24" Soyo just goes blank, and the power light turns off. Hit the button, nothing. Unplug it, replug it, nothing. Let it sit overnight, nothing. Sumbitch is BUSTED.

Immediately after it switched off, I did happen to smell something like burning plastic, or at least that smell you smell when you put your nose near very hot circuitry and plastic. In fact, you could smell it throughout the room, faintly.

Either Soyo or Office Depot better damn well make good on a warranty.

I own the same monitor. I heard that it may have internal power supply issues related to heat. Has it been abnormally hot (ambient)?

It was pretty doggone hot after it died.

I just called office depot, and apparently any warranty information has to be handled through Soyo, who allegedly grants a one year warranty. I wonder if that $300 price tag was indicative of quality.

Naturally, Soyo is closed today.

OfficeMax I mean. Not Office Depot.

My bad, I misstated my question. What was the room temperature when the monitor died? Was it hot?

It was a little warm, but not sweat-inducing. Certainly not over 72-75 degrees. A/C was on.

Good luck! ... please let us know how it goes ... i think a lot of us are asking that same question
- even i was tempted by the price tag even though 24" is too big for me [other than as a 'tv']

A/C was on.
Warm in the Deep South today?
:sun:

cool in SoCal
😎 😛

well people generally get what they pay for. in another thread i warned people about soyo 'quality' (or lack thereof).

Heh, yeah generally if I drop 3 bills on something I'm paying for it to fail in 6 months... haha

OP: hope your warranty takes care of it. Heard the screens are gorgeous when working 🙂

If it was 6 monthes old, then you probably bought them when they first came out (as did I). I bought another one a few weeks ago for work, and noticed that it looked like a new revision (Revision 3?). Hopefully they imporved on the power supply in the new revisions. This monitor was at $280 last week - so you can add a 3 year warranty and still keep the cost down.
Right now, I think the 24" Westinghouse at Sams club is a good deal. The clear plastic bexel looks pretty nice, and the stand is well built:
