Ok so I have my Dragon plus here. Works great, IMHO best mobo ever. But the extra multi media card thingy. The card goes into an expansion slot but connects to the mobo directly through what appears to be a kind of mini ide cable, but its not. I cant get the blasted thing to do anything. Does any software support it. Could I connect my tv to the optical out? COuld i connect my Playstation 2 to the optical in??

Do you have to go into your BIOS and enable it? I don't know, just a guess.

1) Are you using the onbaord audio (CMEDIA) ? I believe this expansion port will only work if you are.
2) Did you install the CMEDIA Audio drivers and software?

Dunno about the PS2 input....

Not to rain on anadtech's parade, but there is a great forum to discuss soyo and other AMD motherboards:
http://www.amdmb.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?forumid=25

Basically, the expansion board enables you to hook up your PC to a 5.1 receiver to get surround sound. The optical/coaxial outs are meant to send digital sound output to an external decoder such as a receiver. The inputs are to pass a digital signal into the PC for capture/editing purposes.

From memory:
Install dragon plus
put expansion card into a free PCI bay (1 or two is best for airflow, also 1&2 seem to be less stable than 3, 5 and 4 in that order)
plug it into the proper header on the mobo (RTFM :) )
get the new CMedia drivers, install them
double click the C-media mixer that appears in the taskbar and select "use SPDIF passthrough".

Try the amdmb.com forums, they are really great, particularly for soyo mobos.

What is greyed out?

If you have your setup in 5.1 speaker mode, it changes the signal that goes to the miniplug adapters on the expansion card. I believe that bass and center channel go to one of the plugs, surround effects go to the other, and the mains are still from the integrated sound plugs. I'm not sure because I use SPDIF. The Soyo forum has all the answers you are looking for.

I'm not sure what you are asking here. How many speakers do you have and where are they plugged in? If you want to be able to play the sound from your cd changer or dvd player on your computer speakers, then yes I think the optical in will allow you to do that. I'm not positive though because I run it out to my receiver. Hope you find the answers at the amdmb forum! Good Luck.
