I got a prob with my new Soyo Dragon+.
I got following PCI Cards:
Adaptec AHA2940U2W SCSI Controller
AVM ISDN Fritz! Card
Asus V8200 Deluxe Geforce3

My Prob:
I got 3 IDE HDs (a 120 GB WD, a 80 GB Maxtor, a 20 GB Fujitsu), 2 IDE CDROMs, and a 1 SCSI CDROM. I want to install win on my WD HD. When I use IDE 0 i can only install win, when i have deactivated IDE 3+4 in my BIOS. But when i don't do it, the installation will hang up at "windows is starting" (or similar). When i set the other HDs on IDE 0 and my WD on IDE 3 I cant install windows, cause i get error-messages (GUI), that some files cant be copied.

I need my other HDs urgently! I hope someone knows that prob.

P.S.: I got 768 MB of RAM installed, if that helps u.

THX in advance.

Volfan's link is the thread where he helped me out big time.

However, I'm still having flakiness - file copy problems just like you indicate. Everything is going great in an install and then the file copy screen hangs.

I had originally put my Adaptec 29160N as my boot device. I couldn't get IDE3/4 to work at all (even recognize the drives). So I loaded all of my IDE devices on IDE 1 and 2 and loaded XP onto the SCSI drive and ran stably for a week or more.

Then I returned to the IDE3/4 problem. Volfan helped me get the drives recognized by setting them both to cable select. But then reinstalling XP I'm back to the same lockups.

So I am concluding (and I think the evidence at this point is very strong) that there is a major problem getting any SCSI Adapter to work in the Dragon Plus if you also enable the promise raid/U100 controller (I tried every PCI slot possibility). Tonight I'm going to buy a 60 or 80 GB IDE drive, take out my adaptec and my beautiful 15K cheetah, and see if I can get XP to install with this IDE only setup. I'll bet a buck that it will. So I'll probably end up putting the cheetah in storage for a year until I build another system. It's kind of a bummer, but the via chipset and latency issues and all that other crap pretty much made the cheetah's performance on par with a 7200 rpm U100. If I go RAID 0 I can even beat it.

Oh and BTW - with 768 ram you're running 3 sticks. This has also been a problem with me and other dragon plus users. You might take a stick out and see what that does. Or you could try the 2BA2 BIOS that was put out a few days ago - it's supposed to solve (or slove, as they say on the soyo website) the 3 dimm problem.
