Soyo Dragon Plus and AthlonX 1700 problem:
First this is my setup.

Soyo dragon plus with latestbios update
AMD XP 1700 Cpu
Heatsink Thermatake S-K6 + D38 Fan
Thermal paste Artic Silver II
Extasy GForce 3 TI 200 64 megs video card
256 ddr Crucial memory stick
Adaptec SCSI and Scsi drive
Lite-on 24x CDRW

I am not able to run at full speed with my new athlon xp1700
I am only able to run at the CPU Frequency Select=100 default value with the CPU ratio selected as AUTO, but this is not the full speed of the CPU (1467). I tried Frequency Stepping increments but I can only get pass 118 fsb then I get windows protection errors or lockup so bad I have to reset the bios.
I also tried the CPU Frequency Select=133 default value, It wil not boot.

I have not played with core voltages or Memory settings since it will make it a lot more complicated to resolve this issues.

CPU temp is 52C iddle.

The fan that comes with the heatsink, Delta D38 (Specs: 6800 RPM, 38 CFM, 46 Dba. Daul Ball Bearing) extremely noisy, Does anyone have an alternative, to replace it with, the noise its driving me crazy
Does anyone have any clues?
Also can you post your bios settings if you have a similar setup?:|

Try reading the mb manual. I think there's a jumper that you need to move for the XP. I hope that's the problem just i just ordered that cpu/mb pair.

I have almost the same setup. XP1700+, Dragon Plus, 512 Crucial PC2100. I don't know what the problem could be. I plugged in my CPU, hooked everything up, and it booted fine, without changing a thing, so I don't think it's a jumper. Sounds like your XP is not set right...like it want's a 100MHz FSB instead of the 133. It sounds like it's not running the CPU at the speed it should, perhaps do to a faulty multiplyer setting. What speeds are you getting at 100MHz FSB? Is it running at 1100MHz like it should if it's set right? (11x multiplier).

What also leads me to believe that is that 52C idle is pretty hot for not running at full speed, especially with a delta. I've got the retail HSF, and I run at 44C full load, 34C idle (with the kt266a tweak, used to be 42C idle)

Nah, def not. It's one of two things:

1. You're a retard and didn't put on the thermal compound correctly
2. The board is bad, RMA it. (happened to me 2 weeks ago)

I tried everything with this Motherboard and it will not run at default speed (1700+ = 1466) unless I boot on Safe Mode????
I have to agreed that there is something wrong with this motherboard.

What is it with the VIA KT266A chipsets and the GEFORCE 3 ti200, it will boot to WinME but it will lockup when starting games,
I found a thread http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=6409 that talks about it.....this motherboard since to be a very buggie motherboard if you read that link.
