Soyo Dragon+ or wait for KT333?

Bout time to upgrade ... was going to do it about 6weeks ago but I put it off due to some "real life" reasons but now it's time. I had my system all planned out 6weeks ago but now that the KT333 is looming, should I go with the Dragon+ or wait and see what KT333 solutions there will be? I guess the main questions are ... how long will it take for them to hit market? How much more expensive will they be?

But mostly ... is it worth the wait? (I already have PC2100 so until my next upgrade I'll be using that...)

If it were me, I would get a new Nforce 415 chipset based board, such as the MSI K7N 415 Pro or Asus A7N 266-C, either of which is only 109 dollars at newegg. First, the integrated audio is much better than the dragon, further, the added bandwidth of the 333 is not going to help the athlon much, as can be witnessed by the Dual Channel ram on the nforce not making a big difference.

Edit: and best of all, no more via 😀

I don't think it would be a mistake to grab the Soyo Dragon+. Soyo just announces the Dragon+ Ultra (KT333), so you could wait for it, but it will not make much of a difference. Plus, Via is suppose to announce KT400 (March 20 I think).

So, to answer your question. Get the Soyo Dragon+ and don't wait. There is always something better coming down the road...

If you can hold out just a little longer for the KT333 you might as well, you'll have future support of DDR333 and it wont cost you any more than a KT266A board. 415 chipsets are quite nice, but since nVidia just announced a new revision of their chipset I wouldn't bother.

I'd say go with the KT333, you're not paying that much more for it, and it's still a bit faster, with newer features too. I recommend checking out the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU, it's got almost everything the Dragons have except LAN.
