Soyo DRAGON + On-board sound vs. a 21" Monitor?

Hello everyone! :D

Just wondering what opinions or thoughts were for the on-board sound on my motherboard. I have yet to complete my system (AMD 2000 XP+; Soyo DRAGON+; 512 Nanya Reg. RAM, etc.), so have not yet been able to see for myself how nice the sound is on the board. I did install the I/O module that gave me the digital in and out ports and 6.1 channel support.

The thing is, I have a computer show and sale this weekend, and the possibility of buying a Audigy at a good price there is very high. I'm definately getting my HD, DVD and Burner drives there as well as my M/S XP Pro. So, with all that already budgeted for, it comes down to: Use the the on-board sound for a while and get a new 21" display, or get a Audigy gamer or platinum and stick with my old 14"?

Thanks for any thoughts or opinions! :)

the audigy your refering to would be one of the few cards that has better sound then your onboard sound with the dragon+ (but i think the dragon+ sound is alot better then the soundblaster live)

sound is pretty relative so sometimes its hard to compare, but for me the onboard sound on the dragon+ meets all my needs and wants :)

Your title is a bit misleading...I thought you were comparing sound to video. I was like, WTF is he talking about? :p Anyway.

I assume you already have speakers, right? Here are some facts.

1. The onboard sound is pretty darn decent
2. The onboard sound will take up CPU cycles if enabled. But, with a 1600MHz processor, I don't see that posing a problem
3. You have a dinky little monitor and need a bigger one. 21" oughtta do it! :D

Your course of action is clear now. Go forth and do great things. Get the Audigy later.

Although I can not vouch for the quality of the on-board sound, I personally would rather have a great big monitor and okay sound vs. great sound and a small monitor. I mean come on, 14 inches?

My recommendation would be to stick with the onboard sound for a while and get a better monitor first. A 21" monitor would be excellent as would some of the larger LCD displays.

You could get the Audigy and a great pair of magnifing glasses but, go with the monitor you'll be happy with the on-board sound.

The Soyo onboard sound is great. Go for the monitor before getting the Audigy.
