I found out my cpu was faulty by testing out my Athlon XP 1800 on my friends athlon motherboard, but when we used his cpu in my ?K7V Dragon Plus all we got was one steady beep. No bios screen, nothing. Anyone have an idea what that one steady beep means? We tested out the ram and it worked fine in my friends mobo. Any ideas what this could be? When I was at work someone told me to reset the cmos or remove the cmos battery to clear things up and try again, dunno if this will work though.

Try holding down the insert key. You may not have a signal going to the RPM sensor of the CPU1 pin. Holding down the insert key disables this feature until you can disable it in the bios.

Would that beep prevent the computer from starting up and the display from turning on? I already mailed out the cpu so I should have a new one by Friday, I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with the motherboard when that happens. Thanks

The essential things for your PC to turn on and display and image are CPU, VGA, and memory, I think 1 continous beep means a memory related problem (probably not well inserted). Besides, this soyo mb needs to have a "3-wires cooler" connected to the CPU1 connector to boot up (If not, it will automatically shut off in a few secconds). I don't think your CPU could be the problem, since you claim to hear a beep, usually, when the CPU is not working you get no beeps.
I would also recommend you to clar your bios, you can do that by moving a jumper which is located near the battery to possition 2-3 and leaving it there for at least 5 seconds. Move it back at the original 1-2 possition after that. Try starting just with the essentials, you can add the rest after getting the sys to work. Good luck!

But my friend used his CPU fan which was for an AMD motherboard/cpu...I am not sure but I do believe it was three wires. Also, that must explain why the computer cut off when I was setting up the bios. I found out why the cpu fried. My peltier wasn't getting electricity so it wasn't cooling off the cpu, IT WAS HEATING IT UP !!! Esp since the peltier comes before the heatsink and that cpu heats up fast. So I am going to purchase the three wire fan and what type of heatsink/cpu combo do you think I should get? I am done with o/c'ing for now, too many corroded chipsets due to condensation, the one I am using now has corrosion yet I am somehow loaded into windows and stuff. Thx for your help though. This forum has been great for that, not to mention quick responses.

What would you recommend (that has the 3 wires fan) for my Athlon XP 1800 and Soyo Dragon Plus? I tested the memory again in another friends comp and it worked fine. All I am waiting for now is my new cpu to arrive in the mail (tomorrow) and then I will order the cpu fan/heatsink combo for my system. I can't wait to finally cross the 1ghz line. :)
