Hey guys,

Happy New Year,

Man am I relieved. I spent over 1200.00 dollars in PC equipment to build my first PC. (Mind you this is impressive because I spend most of my time on a G4 design websites!)

So I got:

Soyo Dragon+
1800 Athlon XP
Maxtor 40GB 7200
Yamaha 3200 CDR
(DVD ROM on order)
Radeon 8500 DDR
512 DDR RAM
TEAC floppy******here is the issue

I have it all hooked up and running except for the floppy drive.
It keep "failing" when booting up even though I can here the drive accessing.

My 2 part question is:

duh- what possible probs could I be having with the floppy? I've checked all the right connections. My HD and CDR runs great but whats the deal with the floppy?

I've checked and rechecked the connections. Would this be a mobo prob or a floppy prob??

BTW:

Onboard sound works great
Onboard LAN works great!

I just need the floppy woring and I'll be happy.

Can you guys help me out?

thanks

If you go into the BIOS and regular CMOS settings, is it configured for a 1.44MB floppy? Other than that, check the cable seating and make sure pin 1 is where it needs to be. The way cables are made, it's hard but not impossible to have them reversed. On the floppy side, pin 1 is usually on the side with the power connector. You can tell pin 1 on the cable because it is the side with a red stripe. I believe the Soyo's floppy controller is pin 1 at the bottom of the case.

Other than that, maybe replace the cable? Or replace the floppy, it's at least a cheap-o part 🙂
