You don't know God Save The King has been around for "that long" until you come across Beethoven writing a set of theme-and-variations for it way back when.

On the other hand, God Bless America is surprisingly younger than one would expect, coming out of the mind of the talented Irving Berlin in 1918.

source: had to occasionally visit my mother's easter-block family in croatia, in the 80s. and keep in mind, croatia was years ahead of communist russia.
