I can't take it anymore. I first saw this commercial close to a month ago and from the first time I saw it I wanted to blow up my television.
It's the one with the Asian-American little girl singing My Country Tis of Thee. It's supposed to be cute because she's singing off-key and and isn't enunciating clearly. In all actuality it's the single-most frustrating and anger-inducing commercial on all of television right now.
First of all, I'm sick of countries trying to cash in on the whole "We're American" thing. I don't give a shit. I mean of course I would prefer to buy American made products/services to support the people here but just because your ads are American-centric doesn't sway me to give you my patronage.
Second of all, (and this is a touchy issue because discussing this on the internet is always tough when people aren't clear on your tone) it's bullshit that they've got the whole "let's show only minorities and not white people" mentality. Look, if we were in India, would it be racist to show mostly Indian people on advertisements? (Or China, or Mexico, or wherever!) If the majority of the people are of a certain ethnicity then don't pull that political correctness garbage in going out of your way to not show them at all.
It's like Southwest took the two things I hate most about marketing and combined them to make a commercial to get my blood pressure up.
