southwest airlines. Can i use my laptop on the plane? Do they have the power outlet on the plane?

I just got back from circuitcity i purchased a targus air/car adapter.

They probably don't have power outlets on most of their planes because:
1) A good portion of their planes are really old
2) A good portion of their flights are short enough that most fully charged lappy batteries wouldn't die in that time period

Everything has to be battery powered. Why should they equip planes with 120-volt outlets? That's more weight and money on the plane...not to mention fixing it if it breaks, liabilities if some idiot shocks himself with it, etc, etc.

I think you're missing the point. Some planes do have power outlets (but not 120 volt), and he "just got back from circuitcity...[and] purchased a targus air/car adapter" to use with those special outlets. But, Southwest, being a more economical airline, most likely does not have the outlets.

I fly SWA quite often, and have yet to see a power outlet. Do see plenty of laptop users though, battery powered of course.

I am sure that you can use it on the plane but I'd advise to get another battery since there will be no power source.

thanks everyone. I got a 3hr flight from Islip Ny to phoenix az 321$ last minnute flight. Im going to help my uncle move, Its really a cross contry drive. wish me luck

You're not going to get to AZ from NY in 3 hrs. On most airlines, it would take anywhere from 4 to 5 hrs. On SW, it will take you 8!!!

kewl , man it was an elbow to elbow flight in deed. OMG.......

it took 4.55 minnutes from NY to baltomore and then to phonix AZ. 320$ last minnute booking.


and the answer is NO they dont have and power sources on thoes SW flight's


my cross country drive back home was awsome. really awsome.

They are the flying cattle cars of the air. There are no seats. Just stand, moo, and be happy you're getting to your destination faster than a car.
If you have to use your laptop maybe you can use one of those drink coupons to let someone agree to balance your laptop on their head.


All kidding aside it's rather unlikely they'll have them on their planes. Only planes made in more recent years will have them and I myself have very rarely seen them on any flights I've been on. My advice. Return the air/car adapter and use the money to buy another battery for your laptop or whatever portable device you are using.

International flight on Lufthansa - I would bet good money that they do, but I really don't know for sure.
