Just got back from Nashville. Here's a few gems I picked up:
Lit-A-tour (literature)
SIGH-reen (siren)
EYE-talian (Italian)
POH-lice (police)
UM-brella (umbrella)
Ta-BACK-a (tobacco)

Interesting. Out of my 18 years of living in Nashville, the only time I heard that was from people from outside the city. Nashville isn't the typical stigma of the South. I rarely heard any of those, though now that I'm in Cookeville (small town TN) I hear them all the time.

These folks were from Goodletsville, which is about 10 miles north of Nashville.
The only part of Florida that's "Southern" is the northern part, aka the Redneck Riviera. The rest of it is beaches/CubanOriginally posted by: Phocas

Ah Jesus. I'm afraid to go up there, that's small small town TN. I think you'd get shot just for stepping into their yard.

I'm from South Florida and I can say with no hesitation that Florida is NOT the south. It is just a sub-located section of New York!
