First post here...
I just built a system around a Shuttle AN35 Ultra. Problem: Southbridge chip runs very hot (too hot to touch), *even when the PC is off*. I'm worried that when the PC is off, and the fans are off too, it will overheat. Had one motherboard go bad, I think this might be why. Replacement mobo seems to have same issue. Hasn't failed yet, but SB chip runs incredibly hot.
I've looked, but can't find a Southbridge heatsink for sale. I don't have the tools to make my own. Has anybody used Northbridge heatsinks, or video card heatsinks, on a Southbridge on an AN35?
Are there power management settings I can change?
Would reducing memory bandwidth make any difference?
The low-tech solution of turning off powerstrip for the PC when not in use is not an option -- this will be my mother's PC, she'll forget.
Thanks!
