Southbridge drivers? Northbridge filter drivers?

I was wondering if someone could help me understand this issue:

I just got a Toshiba Laptop with a Xpress 200m chipset & integrated graphics.

So far I can't get any of the ATI drivers to install, and emailing them, they say they don't provide tech support to their own chipsets! Catalyst install manager doesn't find any drivers except Northbridge Filter drivers, which won't even install.

So I am using the default Toshiba graphics drivers (and supposedly chipset drivers).

I'm a little concerned because there is a Southbridge driver on the ATI site that I can't install. Will this cause any significant issues, or would Vista have installed it's own version?

I also noticed that my USB ports only do about 4.5mbytes/s, while my old Dell does around 14. I can't believe there is a big difference in port speed, even though they are all 2.0! This isn't anything to do with drivers is it?

Help would be appreciated!

ATi doesnt support the drivers because they just make the chip, not provide the chip's functionality. Since it is integrated video, the driver is provided by Toshiba. What makes you think that the drivers are not installed? Usually prebuilt systems are already correctly configured...

Otherwise do the following:
1) Search through Toshiba's install discs for the driver.
2) Scour Toshiba's DL pages for the driver.
3) Call Toshiba if you still can't find what you need.

Well I reinstalled using Vista Business, instead of Vista Basic that came with it, and on my HD (7200 rpm) as well.

ATI is supposed to support the IGP... thats fairly obvious, but because its Vista and the Xpress 200M is getting old, I guess they just don't.

I did install everything on the Toshiba recovery disc, but I'm only concerned because ATI lists a SB driver, which the Toshiba drivers (which is just an older Catalyst & CCC that's been tweaked to actually install) does not list.

My biggest concern is the USB transfer speeds are ridiculously slow, and I'm not sure if its caused by drivers or just the ****** USB controller. Maybe you just get what you pay for...

I haven't come across any issues personally when installing them on a few hp notebooks, I think I have even did one on a Toshiba.
They have a new 7.2 version out as well, or you could try just the south bridge drivers only, as they have the usb controller built in.

Well thats the thing, I have a feeling there is NO support for the Xpress 200M , or SB400 on Vista from ATI. I'm fairly certain if I tried this on an XP install, it would be just fine.

Did you install the drivers for XP or Vista and was it for the Xpress 200M chipset?
