The dramatic, drum-heavy music that plays both when the camera is zooming in the Mall Easter Bunny, and the music that plays when Stan is running away from the Hare Club For Men. Anyone know what it is? I really liked it.

Let me check.

EDIT: I have heard that music in previous episodes, probably just a clip made for those moments. I don't think it is from a band or anything.

I recognized it. It is from the drum loop portion of a drum library made by Quantum Leap. The library is called Stormdrum. It has two parts; drum loops and multi-sampled hits. The library is a virtual instrument that is loaded into a host mult-track digital audio workstation program such as Sonar, Cubase or Logic. You can also load it in stand-alone mode.

Go here to hear some samples in the product page's sound player (upper right-hand corner).

Stormdrum has been used to death in movie trailers, commercials and some films. Zimmer has used it in the past. It was used in one of the TMNT teasers as well as that King Kong style Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial from about 4 months ago.

Any other questions?

Listen to the Rise of the Robots demo. Was that the percussion loop that was used last night?

Wow, nicely done. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Sounds like it's more of an Immediate Music thing rather than a real song. Thanks for clearing that up!

Understand that the percussion you are referencing is from Stormdrum, but the brass and other instruments are either real or from another virtual instrument library.

If they're using Stormdrum, then they may be using Symphonic Orchestra. I've never read how they do the music for the show.

GD, are you a tv music score god, or just someone with no life at all that knows the music score to every tv show ever made?

No, all of the percussion you heard was from that library, but the brass and cymbals are either real or from another virtual instrument library. If they're using Stormdrum, then they may be using Symphonic Orchestra.

Oh, sorry, when I said it's an Immediate Music thing, I meant that it's not a short clip from a real song, it's an arranged clip for that specific scene that doesn't really exist on its own. This is just like when I spent 3 years searching for Blasphemy without knowing anything other than "it's a really cool song they play in a lot of movie trailers" :) (I did eventually find it though!)

Haha. No, I goof around with music as a hobby in a home studio. I own several of the East West/Quantum Leap libraries. I've used Stormdrum enough to immediately recognize when it is being used. I pay attention to the music in ads, tv and film more than the product being shown or the plot line being told.

Oh, I see. I had to look up Immediate Music. Yeah, they are a company that does original music for film trailers and teasers, but they also make music libraries for commercial use. Those are 10-, 15-, 20-, 30-, and 60-second pieces done in different styles. A radio or TV studio will purchase one of these music libraries to use as background music for ads and intro/outro music for their radio or TV programs. The music library can be very expensive, but the studio is free to use all of the music as they choose and when they want. I always thought that would be a fun business; making dozens of songs in many different styles.

Nick Phoenix, one of the guys behind East West/Quantum Leap, has a similar company. He's one of the leading composers for film trailers and teasers.

Yup, that's them. I actually have ~50 of their songs, they're all about 1 minute long. Some of the really good ones are:

Liberation! Choir
Blasphemy
Dragon Drums
RedRum
Gothic Power
Ultimatum

I think they recently released a CD with a bunch of their music on it. If anyone sees it, you might want to pick it up, you'll be surprised at how many you recognize and didn't even realize who did the music.

Yeah, Blasphemy sounds familiar. They're site says that they did the Ghost Rider trailer. Do you know what the title is? That trailer was done very well. I liked how at the end, the music's repeating percussion pattern morphed into the motorcycle exhaust rhythm.
