South Korean parliament votes to impeach President Roh Moo-hyun for illegal electioneering and incompetence charges.

South Korean parliament votes to impeach President Roh Moo-hyun for illegal electioneering and incompetence charges.

Sorry, but i'm a little rusty on my South Korean political processes. Does an impeachment there mean there still needs to be a trial and conviction (similar to the U.S.) for him to be removed, or is impeachment a one-step process over there and he's no longer the President as of now?

Okay, it's up on the CNN website now.... link. Evidently he's still President, but his powers have been suspended and he'll be removed if the Constitutional Court (evidently their version of the Supreme Court) upholds it.

On a somewhat unrelated note, here's hoping that the South Koreans impeach their utterly idiotic "sunshine policy" of appeasing North Korea while they're at it.

majority party, ddan-nara, the impeacher was proven to gather eighty billion won(USD 80,000,000) of illegal presidential election money form company (samsung, huyndai, lg etc...)

Your English is fine, very readable. Moreso than some of the native speakers on this forum in fact 😉

Wow, the won is up to 1,000 per US$1? It was about 750-800 to the dollar when I was there about 15 years ago...

Back then, the exchange rate was regulated by the government. Now, free market decides it.

Ah, the beauty of a republic. I wonder if North Koreans will ever find it within themselves to impeach the "president" there?
