It's funny and sad to see what's happening in S. Korea right now. They have a new, female president who keeps talking about the past of Japanese colonial rule. She even collaberated with Communist China to built a statue to honor an assassin that (rightly, IMO) killed a Japanese colonial master. Now she's talking about comfort women.

Now, all this is expected for a S. Korean leader. But, not usually this early in their term. They usually turn nationalistic towards the end of their term. But not this president. And there is a reason why. She's trying to deflect her family guilt and shame. Fact is, her father was a former dictator in South Korea before being assassinated by his intelligence chief. But that is not his carnal sin. His sin is being in the Japanese Imperial Army. The problem for Miss Park is, according to a stupid S. Korean Law, she stands to lose everything because her father collaborated with the Japanese.

So, out of her own survival and putting her country's alliance with Japan at risk, she keeps talking about all the things Japan did in the past and even refuses to meet with the Japanese PM. All this feeds into China's own rabid nationalism. Sadly, it leads to the Japanese PM's conservative base telling him that there is no reconciliation with Korea and China so he, too, must veer to the right.

But, it's amazing to see S. Koreans have all this venom for Japan and not direct it towards those within their own country...

A national leader visiting the souls of millions of soldiers is not dumb.

Is this why you hate Samsung and amoled?

Nope, I don't hate them. Just don't care for their products or morals. FWIW, I have an LG phone.

It's not dumb. It's retarded.

I have to say, you should at least look up what the shrine is.

It's a war memorial to all of Japan's war dead, relatively few of which were war criminals. The manner in which the war criminals were enshrined was somewhat irregular and whether it could ever be undone is questionable.

It's a questionable thing for leaders to visit but it's not a plain and simple issue by any means.
