South Carolina MIGHT make it illegal for cops to search cars based on marijuana odor.

Most of you already know about this but all too often cops claim they smell weed then use it as an excuse to eject everyone from a car and rip the thing apart. Sometimes they even plant a joint to make it stick. Its impossible to prove on the stand whether a cop smelled something or did not. Prosecutors know this, but they do what they can to support police cuz they are all one big team.
Apparently South Carolina is getting tired of this practice. They are working on a law to stop it. I'm fine with giving cops fewer excuses to harass people on the road.

If that ploy is stopped, I'm sure our clever, well meaning and resourceful LEOs will find other ways to protect and serve the people they swore an oath to. Well, not all of the people, just the ones they feel like serving. Those others that don't fit that fortunate category, they're the ones some LEOs take out their racist fantasies on, the ones that needed to be put in their place, the ones that provided the motivation for some LEOs to become legally authorized defenders of their own personal rights, beliefs and freedom from.

This only treats a symptom and not the root issue. A failure to treat the root of the issue won’t fix anything at all but will more than likely just cause alternative options to achieve the same results.

I think police reform is badly needed in this country and I think the federal government could help by coming up with standards, accountability, and a system the states can emulate themselves with a federal backstop to aid them.

Since SC, did they make a distinction on if this only applies to whites?

And a database of police offenders.
