Sources of affordable winter coats?

I'm looking for a new winter coat. My sister wants to get me a new one for my upcoming birthday. I don't know what her budget is, so I'll just guess and say $120 max.

I'm interested in getting a men's pea coat, but I'd much prefer it in dark green rather than navy blue or black like everyone else.

I've been doing a bit of searching and will do some more, but if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them.

Green? For $120? If you happen to find one, let me know. Maybe H&M has one.

Some good prices there, nothing really matching what I'm looking for though.

Nope, only Saks-related stores near me are Saks 5th in downtown Chicago.

I really hate H&M's website. Why can't I just search for coats??? That said, it *looks* like they have one. It's a bit busy for my taste with two columns of buttons (I like a simpler look) but I may go for it.

Green?

You mean olive drab?

I was hoping for forest green or so, but who knows what I'll find.

Wait until spring and go to Kohls. They have awesome coats 90% off. My current coat (corduroy barn coat) was supposed to be $70. I paid $9.

That one is dry clean only and it's not the same color the OP wants.

AFAIK any wool coat is going to be dry clean only..

You're in Chicago.... are you sure that a Pea coat will actually qualify as a winter coat? I just bought one recently on sale, but it's nowhere near warm enough for winter here in Wisconsin.

It's going to be a gift to me from my sister, so no need to wait.

True, but it's not bad. In fact while browsing that site I saw one I really liked, even though it is neither green nor a pea coat:

the one you posted is also dry clean only; Do you want a jacket for multi-purposes? that you can wear for hiking, outdoor sports, year round wear, etc?

check out rei.com, patagonia.com, they don't have pea coat jackets, but they do carry a lots of outdoor jackets that will serve you as a multi-purpose uses.

Thanks, I'll check those out. I'm okay with dry clean only. I don't need something for hiking or outdoor sports, just something to wear when I'm outside in the cold that will keep me warm and look pretty good.

Talk about affordable, I bought a jacket for $15 at Walmart a couple of weeks ago that I love. It's light as hell and quite warm. About as simple as it gets.
