Source for longer than normal IDE cables?

I'm having some trouble setting up my new rig cable-wise. The Plextor CDRW likes to be on a separate IDE channel than the CD-ROM drive, but I don't have a cable long enough to go from the IDE port on the mobo, down to the lower part of the case where the HDD is (better airflow for it down there) and then all the way back up to the CD-ROM drive. Are longer than usual cables available, or is there such a thing as an "extension cord" for IDE cables?

Thanks,
Fausto

You can find IDE cables longer than 18 inches here and there.

I usually buy them locally, but i'm sure you can find them online if you look around

i've never seen an "IDE extension" before...don't believe that's a good idea either. But using a slightly longer cable isn't really harmful

Excellent...exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for saving me a 30-min crawl around the web trying to find a reseller that carries these.:):)

Not a good idea to go much longer than 24" my man.....I personally like to stay under 18". What did you do, mount your mobo in an old refrigerator?

No, its just that my new case is on the upper end size-wize for a "mid" ATX case. This is compounded by the fact that the HDD slots are all the way down at the bottom end of the case (directly in the airflow from the front intake fan tho...this is a good thing).

I know what you mean about having a hard time to use regular in "spec" cables. I have a full tower and my hard drive bays are mostly up high. I have two or 3 bays above my psu and I wish I could use the bays cause there's like 2 dedicated fan holes just for the upper components. I am going to try 36" rounded cables sometime cause I've heard some people say that they haven't had any data problems with longer cables, even the ata100/133 types. The best bet is to get very good quality cables though, don't skimp on price here.
