All photo ops are fake.

They don't have to be.

For example, Ryan and a few of his staffers/kids/whomever could have, you know, volunteered a few hours of their time, and actually worked at the kitchen.

Give the heads-up to some photographers and reporters, and the rest takes care of itself.

I'm sad for you, that you can write that and honestly think it makes sense. He is the president of the organization and I'm sure he knows the right procedures.

You can't read. I'm not sayng he does not know his bylaws and I'm assuming that the bylaws do state that they cannot allow a poliitcal photo op. The lady who was running the soup kitchen apparently does not know the bylaws and approved the photo op. That's not Ryan's fault. Whose responsibilty is it to know their rules/bylaws?

Have you missed the update that it turns out that the claim that he only washed clean dishes was incorrect. It has now been conceded that Ryan did wash dirty dishes.

Here is an update from the local news. I noticed that he did not say why the donors were stopping donations. I'm waiting for the local news to seek out some of these donors and ask them why they stopped. Antal started a shit storm.

http://www.vindy.com/videos/2012/oct/16/2011/

YOUNGSTOWN — The president of Mahoning County’s St. Vincent de Paul Society says the agency has taken a financial hit after his criticism of Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan’s visit to the soup kitchen made national news.

“The amount of people who called and said they were donors who would stop contributing is substantial,” said Brian J. Antal, who runs the society.

When asked for specifics, Antal said “donations are private,” but of the people who’ve called, “dozens have identified themselves” and are donors.

Ryan visited the soup kitchen last Saturday.

The woman who coordinates the dining hall for the poor gave Paul’s campaign permission to have the candidate and his family visit the facility.

Ryan ran late and missed the breakfast crowd. His campaign asked that a few pots and pans be kept dirty so Ryan and his family could be photographed cleaning them, said Juanita Sherba, St. Vincent’s Saturday coordinator for the dining hall.

In the last few days, Antal said the critical calls have been overtaken by those who support the organization with some offering to contribute money.

This president and his "faux outrage" has no business in charity. It's high time the donors help him see that. He needs to remove himself and put someone there who really cares about the people, and won't jump at any opportunity to get partisan.

You continue to wow.

So let's sum this situation up.

Ryan's campaign thinks it's a good idea for Ryan and his family to have a photo op at a charity soup kitchen. They talked to the person in charge ahead of time who gives permission for the photo op. Neither the lady or Ryan's people know that it's against the bylaws of the charity.

Ryan is running late so the campaign asks the lady at the soup kitchen if they can leave a few dirty pots and pans around for them to clean so the media can take pictures. The lady in charge agrees that it would be ok.

Ryan and his family stop at the soup kitchen and try to salvage the late photo op. Media is taking pictures like crazy as they usually to in photo ops like this.

Progressive website starts looking at pictures and notice that some of the pots are clean when Ryan washes them. The word gets out in the liberal world about the photo op and they are posting on blogs, forums, etc., outraged that this happened.

The democratic supporting president of the charity goes ballistic and starts calling the media with the smackdown on Ryan.

Conservative donors get pissed at the president of the charity for saying all those negative things about Ryan and supposedly stop their donations.

Liberals who don't normally contribute to charity come out in force to help this charity and blame the evil Ryan for all of this. Since the left started this debacle it's probably only fair that they replace the contributions that were stopped.

Looks like a win/win here. Liberals are giving money to charity and Ryan gets support from conservatives.

No, some said they set aside some dirty dishes for him. Sounds fabricated considering the place did not plan on him showing up.

No, the president of the charity conceded later that Ryan washed dirty dishes. So he is now fabricating information? The place did plan on him showing up, they just weren't able to make it on time, so they asked some dirty dishes to be left. Sometimes, you just have to let it go. The left jumped all over this before the facts came out, and now it turns out its a non-story. Give it up.

The guy should not have commented in that way and his charity is paying for it. Like it or not he is the figurehead and I would assume he is speaking on behalf of the charity when he is speaking in such a manner.

People are free to do what they want with their money.

I would equate this like people withdrawing support for Komen after they decided to withdraw from Planned Parenthood donations or the more recent Chik-Fil-A debacle.

Probably that libs are now giving one percent of what the righties were giving and are demanding receipts showing they paid 500 times what they paid.

This is why the right wants anonymous donors to political campaigns. If liberals knew who was donating to the Republicans they would boycott their businesses. These, of course, are the same assholes who will gladly black ball a charity they don't like. Fucking worthless shit.
Dude, you have gone bat shit crazy. Um, bat shit crazier. Why the flying weasel fuck would someone contribute to a charity they don't like? That isn't black balling, it's common sense.

Agreed, completely. However, at this point Ryan needs to step up and either ask people nicely to resume contributing, or suggest another soup kitchen serving the same area. Antal was clearly an idiot who went all foamy when he should have quietly arranged for a prominent Democrat to get a photo op, but hurting this asshole is also hurting hungry poor people. Neither side wants that, yet that's the result.

The dishonesty of righties about this is staggering, particularly their attributions as to Antal's political leanings & what the man actually said-

"I can’t afford to lose funding from these private individuals,” he said. “If this was the Democrats, I’d have the same exact problem.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...nhappy-about-paul-ryan-soup-kitchen-photo-op/

It's obvious that our usual idiots are just channeling rightwing sources & spin, pretending that they actually know what the man said. They don't.

They'll defend any sleazy trick their boys pull, then try to bully anybody who calls 'em on it. They have no shame.

It's like the time Joe Wilson disagreed with the Bush Admin publically- they outed his CIA wife, and the usual idiots rushed to their defense.

Maybe if Antal didn't lie about being a democratic voter.

Update: Antal, who describes himself as an independent, has voted in Democratic primaries for the past 17 years.

Looks like HuffPo is still spreading the lies.

It was October 13, in the Youngstown, Ohio area, when the vice presidential candidate made an uninvited, unannounced stop at a St. Vincent DePaul soup kitchen.

It's already been established by the person running the kitchen that they asked and received permission ahead of time to visit.

According to St. Vincent DePaul Society President, Brian Antel, Paul Ryan "barged in" -- not concerned about violating St. Vincent DePaul's non-partisan, apolitical policy.

Their policy does not prohibit political photo op visits. Antal is changing it now.

Seriously? HuffPo is going around interviewing charites in Ryan's area.

"fake photo op". As if every interview from the president isn't scripted and planned well before it takes place. Myopic fools from both sides of the isle are getting bamboozled and they each blame each other. Divide and conquer I guess. Fucking idiots.

Has Brian Antal allowed his charity to be used as a political photo-op in the past?

If he hasn't then he has the the right to call it out now.

Now if the Jesus lovin' folks want to protest it, fine.... That's what Jesus would have done...

It's one thing to stop by a soup kitchen, congratulate the volunteers on their efforts, maybe even write a check, entirely another to use it as a photo op to create the impression that you actually did something as useful in 15 minutes that the volunteers do for hours, often for years on end.

It only reinforces the all too accurate view that Ryan is a fake & an opportunist.

He also knew what he was doing, he even grabbed a jug of something, read the label to make sure it was soap.

Lets ignore the fake photo Op at the expense of the poor and homeless.

this is ridiculous, all politicians do this so giving one a hard time for it and not the rest is just partisan bullshittery.

Again, the guy was heavily liberal and overreacted, if anything people should be pissed at him, and if they are losing money they are to blame, not Ryan or those on the right.
