SoundStorm Woes?

Sometimes, while i am playing Quake 3 Arena online, I hear a delay in sound. I will be playing along just fine, and everything will be working dandy and then all of the sudden my sound will start trailing the events taking place. Like, I will fire and there will be an explosion, but I wont hear it a while after it took place.

I am using an NF7-S Version 2.0, with it's integrated soundstorm sound card. I have the latest drivers (nforce chipset 2.45)and the latest BIOS installed. Actually my motherboard came with the latest BIOS already flashed.

When I went to try to update the BIOS after first receiving my NF7-S, with the Flash utility, "flashmenu" said that I already had the latest BIOS installed. (so I'm a little suspicious that newegg may have sent me an open box item, that may have been returned for some reason) I bought and PAID for a breand new retail item (not refurb). Hopefully I'm wrong or it's something else, because I would hate to pay shipping for return it... Anyways...

What's important is to help me figure out how to trouble shoot sound cards; how to test it for defects. Because for some reason the sound lags and it sounds strange, kind of crackled...

Thanks in advanced for the help.

if it's only lagging when playing online, then its probably the internet connection, not the soundstorm. otherwise, perhaps your southbridge is getting too hot...

Thanks for the reply.

My system temp is 25C and CPU is 40C (according to winbond Hardware Doctor). Does this tell me anything about an overheating southbridge; or I wouldn't be able to tell with this information?

As for my connection I usually carry a ping of 50 +or- 30 (depending on server), I don't think that at this speed I should be having problems. Or would this be something independent of my ping? It has happened to me while my ping was hitting as low as 30

Start here and check out the nForce Audio & HTPC forum that is stickied in for tons of Soundstorm data. Some never do get their crackling or other issues fixed, while for others, like myself, Soundstorm is near perfect. I don't game online with my Shuttle SN45G cube though either.

I had sound corruption issues when using the two latest versions of the nForce drivers on my A7N8X-DX. I had to go to Asus' website and download the version on their site, haven't had a problem since.
