Sounds system pops! Help. *UPDATED*

I have an OEM Soundblaster Live! 5.1 and a set of cheapo Creative 2400 2.1 speakers (I think that's there model). Well the system has been making popping noises lately when doing audio related tasks. Do you think it's my speakers or my outdated crappy sound card?

Thanks!

EDIT: It's my soundcard, I just tested. My onboard mobo sound chip sounds OK but I cant play Windows Media Player 9.0, Macromedia Flash website and a audio training tutorial at the same time. 🙁 My (now deceased) Soundblaster could do this, guess ill order a Fortissimo III tonight...

Unless the crackles happen at exactly the same frequency, it is almost certainly the soundcard. I had the same problem with my old soundcard. It's related to cpu load, or possibly interrupts. Anyway, a newish soundcard that isn't super cheap (>$5.00) should fix your problem.

IIIBradIII: I dont have a wireless keyboard or mouse.

IsaacMacDonald: Thanks for the idea, ill try the speakers on my Dad's soundcard and see if it happens then.

I just recently downloaded the latest drivers for my Soundblaster Live Value and installed them. Now mine pops where it never did before. I was running the WDM drivers (don't even remember where I got them, but it wasn't from www.soundblaster.com) and never had any problems.

I also get sound related pauses now. Why, oh why do I upgrade my drivers when everything is running well..........🙂

are you using a KT133 based board? an abit KT7? i remember those being notoriously flaky with SB Live cards back in the day.

KT333 chipset...I wish I had an nForce2! 🙂

The SBLive was a fine card in it's day, but it's dated now. I wouldn't use one in conjunction with any of today's hardware. I really doubt you'll correct this problem with just a driver upgrade. I suggest, when you're able, upgrade your sound card. The Fortissimo III is a relative cheap alternative if cost is an issue. If not, the Audigy2 (stay away from the Audigy1) is another great choice, albeit more expensive.
