Ok, recently my monitor has begun doing the following

-When my PC boots up i can here the power surging through my monitor (not noticable previously)

-The top of my monitor is very hot to touch

-When i close down, after my PC is off, the monitor clicks 3-4 times as if it is changing modes.
- It flickers now and then for no apparent reason.

The monitor is a Viewsonic E771 and until now it has performed perfectly (about 18 months). It still works well, but i am just worried something bad is about to happen.
Obviously something is wrong, im just trying to get an idea of what. They charge so much to even look at a monitor these days im not sure if i should spend the $50 to get a tech to look at it. Or flick it off cheap 'as is, where is' and buy something new.

(PS it's under warranty, but im dammed if i can find the receipt)

thanx

I had a incident with a Veiwsonic once and I convinced the CSR to take my monitor even though I did not have a receipt. I just gave the model number and it was released recently enough that there was no way tha the three year warrany could expire. But it cost my dearly to ship it to them...

Exactly what temperature is "very hot"? Some people use the term even for temperatures under 45C.

I assume you're referring to the area above the front of the screen because that's the top. I have no idea why it would get hot except from a degaussing coil that's running continuously (it normally runs for only a few seconds at a time), but that would cause a rainbow pattern on the screen, and I have no idea how much heat a degaussing coil generates.

It's possible that the problem is with the low voltage power supply for the circuitry that controls things like the degaussing coil relay and the video mode switching
