Soundproofing a room cheaply?

We currently have two rooms seperated by two sliding mirrored doors. Since my roommates, a couple, are moving out I'm sealing the door and renting both rooms to two different people. For privacy's sake, I'd like to limit sound transmission between rooms as much as possible - any suggestions?

We're not building a sound studio but a little dampening of sound would be nice.

Thanks!

Use dense insulation. That's probably the best you're going to get...that is if you can fill in the space.

Have had the question many times, can't be done, don't even bother. Headphones are your friend.

Arn't cardboard egg crates supposed to provide some sound isolation? that might be your best bet for cheap. Put a rubber barrier between anything that vibrates, that's how I would do it with my computer at least :)

Rockwool, aluminum bars and cover it with plaster, there is no cheaper way and besides, you'll still have a real wall in your room.

Rockwool

put up a new layer of drywall, instead of alum bars and plaster?

original wall | rockwool | new drywall

like 2 pieces of bread, and marhmellow in the middle
