I don't live on a particularly busy street, but my problem is the garbage trucks that come around 1:30am every morning. (Yes, this is nyc) They're pretty loud and the noise prevents me from sleeping.

So i'm looking into sound proofing my windows. Right now I've got single pane windows i think. Would double paned windows be much better? Are there soundproof blinds I can look into? Anyone knowledgeable about windows?

(And yeah, I happen to be awake right now because that blasted garbage truck woke me up)

Replace your windows with some windows made of laminated glass. I hope you are ready to spend some $$ to do this. Probably $300 each plus another $300 each for installation. Depending on the specifics of the job and the skill of the workers, your interior and exterior walls near the windows may require some work too.

NYC you say, if those windows are not reachable from the ground, their may be even more $$$ involved.

I would get a white noise maker.

double paned argon filled does seal out sound quite a bit. i used to have single paned and well its like closing the door. but iguess the whole window unit is built better in the first place since it has tot seal in gas. the frame has many sealed air chambers, and even the outside flange area is made up of small chambers. course not all of em are made equal so shop around. think mine are anlin

how much did they cost? argon filled.. does the argon leak out and have to be refilled every few years?
