Is there any easy way to find the correct soundMAX drivers for a select system? Why is it that you have to rely on going through the PC\motherboards manufacturers site to download the proper setup?

Then even when you do that there are always multiple variations that seem to vary in size from 5mb to 20+mb? Is there any easy way to just get basic on board sound drivers?

It just always seems like I have the hardest time getting sound to work whenever it involves soundmax?

List what motherboard you have, that would help us all in the searching process. I have used non-motherboard maker drivers, but it depends on the sound chipset.

I have Soundmax onboard sound on my Dell 4600 (Intel MOBO). Of course it's proprietary. Can't find a version of the audio, but driver version is 5.12.1.3555. Don't knowq if this would help since you don't state make/MOBO.

I have a computer that was originally fully IBM. I have the mobo and all the drivers from IBM, and they include drivers for the onboard soundmax sound. I had no problem with installing them in win xp pro.
What mobo do you have?

You can first try running windows update and let it find any updated drivers for you. Dell should have your drivers, go to their support page and type in the info found on the sticker on the side of your pc case.

the problem is that we have to use win98, so our brand new gateway PC's that come installed with XP, get wiped out and then we proceed to get 98 working on them. The board is an Intel 865g, and gateway only has drivers for XP on their site, and none of them work with 98.
