Hi all 🙂 Im going to be buying Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers and was wondering whether I should buy an Xfi Extreme Music for £50 or stick with the Onboard sound. In other words, Im going to be keeping the computer for 3 years and dont want to upgrade the sound card, will there be a noticeable difference for games/music? Thanks 🙂

Joe

Along with those sennheiser headphones you're planning, X-Fi might be a good bet.

It's going to have some good features for gaming, and music should be better too. It's too bad you can't get in on the ~$60 deals we have going over here.

X-Fi should last you 3 years as far as features go as sound moves a lot slower than video for example.

Thanks, guess its worth the investment.

On a side note which 2.1 speakers would you recommend? At the moment Im looking at the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1.

Thanks again for the reply 🙂

Joe

Ps: Any preferences on which sennheiser headset? 🙂

Those are one of the better sets. Over here you used to be able to find the Klipsch iFi set for about $200 and that's a step up from the promedias.

Around this level you're almost at the point where you can start thinking about getting a sub, receiver/amp, and a set of bookshelf speakers of your choice.

I'm not sure on availability over there, but Swan M200s are kind of a self powered monitor/bookshelf option that you might want to look at.

They used to be sold through AV123 where I got my own speakers so I guess I trust them as a solid option even thought I have not heard them.

Headsets - I don't know, never used one
