anyone know of any soundcards that have a built in optical digital output? like the ones on back of stereos or cd players..it's like a square sort of shape...and u mainly use it for recording the music onto a mini disc player..?? i want to get a good soundcard overall and have this output..

thanks

Xitel Storm Platinum has it, but it uses Aureal 2500 chipset

pretty much all of the Live! Drives have them too

The old Aureal SQ2500 has that type of connector, but Aureal isn't with us anymore. You can get these cheap, but they don't work with Windows 2000. There are some drivers out there for WinXP, but I don't know how well they work. The card still has a small following over at VortexofSound website, including some driver updates.

The Aureal card is called the Vortex2 Superquad. It's still a decent card, I don't have any problems with it in XP (then again I have 2.1 speakers and don't use positional audio in games). You can probably find one for $15. Otherwise the SB Live Platinum with Live! Drive IR or II (requires an open 5.25" bay) has what you're looking for. I saw it at mwave for $96.
