Soundcard Troubles

I just installed my Terratec DMX 6Fire 24/96 and I'm having some problems with it. When I played two audio cds that i've bought there's a hissing sound coming from the speakers, it's like the sound that a spinning CD would make.

Another problem is that the sound crackles, I've only heard this while playing a game so far. I've got an nForce 2 motherboard which crackles a little when I was using the on-board sound and I've heard that installing a new soundcard and disabling the on-board sound should solve this problem. I also can't get EAX or 5.1 sound to properly work with games, even though the card supports EAX 1.0 and 2.0 and also 6 channel 5.1.

Any ideas as to what's causing this?

the CD hissing could be the cd audio cable running from the cd-rom to the sound card. i had a similar issue with interference from fans and the internals of the computer putting noise into the card through that wire. i had to dsiable it.

does your motherboard happen to be the Asus nforce2?

My motherboards an MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR nForce 2, it crackled sometimes when I was using the on-board sound. That's why I decided to install a soundcard as I've heard that this should solve the crackling problem.

As for the cable, well I don't actually have a cable connected from any optical drives to my soundcard.

well then how do you play the cds?

as for the crackle, try and narrow does when it takes place. its probably a hardware conflict. try different PCI slots and giving it its own IRQ.

I don't know, they just play. I've got a breakout box which came with the card.

I moved the card to a different PCI slot but that hasn't made any difference. How do I create an IRQ for the card?
