Soundcard to record from record player?

Can I use just a normal Sound Blaster card or do I need one of the platinum cards with the RCA inputs?

I figured I could just buy a adapter for the line-in on the Sound Blaster card. Is this correct?

Thanks,

No, you don't need any special sound card but you will need a cable or adapter to connect your "Line In" (1/8" mini stereo jack) to the "Line" or "Tape" output of your audio receiver or amp, which are probably RCA Left and Right jacks. The cable/adapter you need is common as dirt and you can get one at WalMart, Target, Radio Schlock or any of the big box stores (avoid the big-box (CopmpUSA, BestBuy, CircCity, etc.) stores if possible because their cables are usually highly marked up - Radio schlock too as all their cables are overpriced) if you don't have one - it's called " 1/8" (or 3.5mm) mini stereo plug (male)-to-RCA plugs (male)". There are lots of tutorials around the web for doing this - I think one is on Kim Komando's web site: www.komando.com - just google on it.
. Remember, the Line In on the sound card requires a "Line level" output as its source. The output from most turntables is not line-level, 1V avg., (but some do have internal phono preamps, thus their output is "line-level") and is unequalized (needs RIAA equalization that's provided by the phono preamp stage of a receiver or audio integrated amp). So be sure to use a "Line" or Tape output as the source for your sound card.
