Soundcard needed in dedicated server?

This is sorta hardware, sorta not, because it has to do with termserv.

I bought a dedicated server (Windows 2003, I am running some applications on the desktop via termserv). The applications that I run on this server make noise. The computer does not have a soundcard. In termserv, I have checked the "bring the sounds to this PC" so theoretically if it was working and making noises I would hear them here (when I termserv a friends computer, that has a soundcard, this happens).

I want to hear the noises my applications make. The sound portion of htem is quite important. Do I need a sound card in the dedicated server for this to happen? Is there any way to emulate a soundcard so that I could get sound over termserv without having to put one in the machine?

AFAIK, the only important thing is for the client to have a soundcard. A sound card installed on the server shouldn't matter at all, as you're not sitting on a terminal server (the actual server machine) and listening for sounds, you're using a client. A large server used for terminal server would rarely have a soundcard in the machine. If you are running on a program on a client for terminal server, any sounds, alerts, etc. would be generated on the client machine.

no, if the server does not have a snd card you will not hear the sounds from the app. All audio requests get dropped if no card is present on the machine.

That is what I had thought also as when I am on termserv I am not hearing any noises that I would ordinarially expect to hear. So the solution to fixing that is, "get a soundcard"?

Also, any thoughts on emulating the soundcard?
