Soundcard for music and movies

Can somebody recommend a sound card mainly used for music (60%) and movies (40%)? I've been using a TB Santa Cruz but it crapped out. Or should I stick with the onboard sound of the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L motherboard?

Well I recently switched from an x-fi to an asus xonar d2x and the sound clarity just blows the x-fi away. Dolby digital and dts both work right out of the box unlike the x-fi in vista. I can't recommend anything else because this is the best available right now.

I can't recommend ANY sound cards or onboard sound anymore. Every one has issues with Vista now. Even the asus, x-fi, onboard. No matter what one i try I always get crackling/popping sounds when playing music/games/movies. Bioshock it was so bad I could not even play it.

Right now as i type this, every time a ad comes on top of screen (disabled adblock to see) i hear a crackling noise in song. Its freakin so sad its funny now.

What is the sad part is it is so random, depends on application, time of day, solar eclipse, who knows. TF2 its perfect, bioshock is so terrible, Company of heroes its a tossup, sometimes it does sometimes no. Movies are the same way.

I don't understand it. I have literally redid everything on my PC 2 times since i had x-fi and same problem no matter what sound device i use. lol

ive never had any popping crackling with any sound card on XP or Vista, maybe you need to move pci slots.

I think he should really update that k6-233 system he's using.😀 I've never had any noise issues in vista apart from my first x-fi and sorry drivers from creative.

Like i said, I've tried EVERYTHING, different systems, different X-Fi versions, different soundcards than xfi, etc. Modern or older system it happens, the only common thing is Vista. /shrug I run a 3.1ghz c2d, Gigabyte DS3, 2 gig ram now.

I'm not the only one, there is even a sticky thread on creative forums with hundreds of people. Even newest cards that just came out. That sticky thread is the FORTH thread on the subject over 100+ posts long.
