Soundblaster X-fi remote control

I have the soundblaster X-fi Platinum soundcard, it came with a remote control does anybody know what I need to install in order to use the remote control?
Here is a really dumb question for you guys, does the SPDIF option produce better sound than not using it? I noticed that if I have my sound for movies set to the SPDIF option the volume up/down controls on my keyboard dont work and I need to reach across my desk to the volume control that came with my speakers. That is kinda a pain when I am kicked back and comfortable...esspecially when I have a remote control, but I cant figure out how to use it.
I mainly bought the soundcard to make my machine better at playing games and I am just know trying to figure out how to make use of it with its other options.

Not sure on your remote issues, but you should probably stick with analog for your card.
