There's a special plugin that gives you RC capabilities, just do a search on winamp.com. It is based on the Linux prog Lirc. If you want more detailed info, you will have to wait until I get home, because I have a mag there that covered that issue last month.

Hope this helps,

Menel.

OK, let start of with some links:
The LIRC project homepage
WinLIRC homepage
IRAssistant homepage

A Quick guide:
DL winlirc-0.6.zip from the link above.
DL gen_ir-0.2.zip from the plugin section of winamp and unzip into the ..\winamp\plugins dir.
Start winlirc.exe and follow the instructions.
Start Winamp en configure the plugin in the Options>Preferences>Plugins>General Purpose tab.
Have a nice RC time.

More details after you guys tried that, and somehow got into trouble ;) !

Hi,

Hate to burst your bubble but the Creative IR interface is not standard. I don't believe any of those plugins will work with it.

On a more postive note I see IRMan is now distributed in the USA so long waits and shipping charges are no longer necessary. The bad news is it still costs $35! But now you at least get a fancy box and logo's. I never could get an Asus IRM-100 module working correctly on the ol' BH6 ... wish I would have sprung for the IRMan in the first place ... afraid I am not familiar 'nuff with e-lectronic circuitry for it to be worth trying to make one on my own.

unfortunately superbaby is right. However, if anyone knows how to hack into the remotecenter software, than you can get it to do whatever the heck you want

Yeah, I noticed it too. But I am expecting IRassitant to come up with a driver for the SB 5.1 IR port. They found a solution for the irDA ports too, so ...

But for those who stuck to the value SBLive or any other card, and want to have remote control, using your OWN RC, there's is a very simple way of constructing an IR reciever to put onto your serial (COM) port. Just do a search on the net or use any of these designs:
www.us-epanorama.net/irremote.html
and here for info:
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Lab/1475/remotectrl.html

It will cost about 5$, it doesn't require you to open up processor casing or use thermal compound, and the only risc you take is blowing up your COM port (I will not be held responsable for people who do succeed in killing their entire system :) ).

Come on you L1 bridges, C8 soldering techies.

After I posted I was actually hoping to hell that someone would say "superbaby you idiot, of course you can use the RC with the SB 5.1, here's how...".

No such luck today :(

I have an Irman on order, 2-3 weeks it should be here!

Thanks Menelaos. The WinLIRC and plug in works with the Packard Bell Fast Media Infrared Remote. Even works under Windows 2000! :)
