Soundblaster PCI128 won't work

I'm sitting here behind a HP Pavilion 730 with AMD XP 1600+. It's got a Creative Audio PCI (ES1371, ES1373) (WDM) and hardware management says this thing works.

The properties for audio however are all greyed out. I tried to find a new driver, but there doesn´t seem to be one. Right now it has 5.2.3633.0 dated 18-06-2002. It won´t accept any other install, it simply says there´s no creative card.

The machine hasn´t been on the internet for quite some time. I can´t even recall when the audio did work. It is the only thing I can´t seem to fix on this machine. If everything else fails, I´ll probably reinstall the whole thing.

Does anybody have any ideas how to make it work?

Yeah. I used this card many times I know what you are going through right now.
Best thing is you uninstall the driver for the PCI128 first.
Then find the 'proper' driver from the web.
Make sure you check the compatibility with your OS. (if you are using XP, 2K will be fine!)
Do not install the software, but manually select the driver from the list you downloaded and storged in you HD. Make sure you restart the PC.
If it does not work, then remove the system files from windows folder. (if you check the properties of the file, it has a description about the file!)
Good luck! 🙂

The sound is restored, but I had to restore the whole thing to get it to work. Now I have questions of another kind. I'm trying to google some before I post. Thanks anyway.
