Hi, i just re installed windows because of illegal opeation after NOrton Speed disk

i reinstall everything including soundblaster live! value driver.

i can get the music working, but i can't get the rear set of speakers working.

i have the creative cambridge fps2000. i download the "sblw9xup" from soundblaster.com

now, i don't have audioHQ, i don't have the "mixer" from creative and stuffs.

the default mixer from MS win98 doesn't have the front and rear speaker setting

one more, the Live ware is gone? can't find it anywhere...

(illegal operation after speedisk), i see this problem months ago. but can't find it again. Perhaps the solution...

All the recent Sb Live driver sets put AudioHQ under Control Panels. Look, it should be there.

This exact problem happened to me before both with SB Live! and Audigy. At first, I thought the drivers were corrupted and just needed to reinstall. I couldn't just use the update drivers. Everytime I try to install the drivers, it says that no card is present. When I went into Creative's AudioHQ, I noticed that some icons were missing. I went into the speaker configuration to test the individual speakers. Nothing came out of the rear speakers.

I finally fixed it by going through "ALL" the sound card/speaker settings in both Creative AudioHQ and Windows Audio Properties and restart my computer. That fixed the problem so I think the problem was that either Windows settings were configured wrong or the drivers was having trouble detecting the sound card.

This problem only happened with Windows XP. I was also switching back and forth between speakers and headphones so something could have messed up during the switches.

You need to install LiveWare if you want to get into the Creative Control Panel / AudioHQ.

You don't have the original software CD from Creative?

When I used W98, I didn't see any OS controls for surround sound speakers. I had to use AudioHQ to choose 4.1 speakers.

With WXP, there are OS controls for speaker type.. I'm using those instead of Creative's applications since Creative is notorious for not having the most reliable software.

It sounds like maybe you installed the bare drivers only, and didn't get AudioHQ. Either reinstall from original CD or from LiveWare. Even though Creative cancelled LiveWare, you can download it from somewhere else by doing a google search.

You can also get LiveWare by contacting Creative' s customer service at:

Tel: 1-800-998-1000 (non-technical issues only, please)
FAX: 1-405-624-6780

Operating Hours (Central Time)
9AM - 7PM, Monday - Thursday
9AM - 5PM, Friday
Closed Public Holidays

and ask to have the LiveWare CD shipped to you. I just did that recently and cost $1.00 US for the CD and about $6.00 US for the shipping (go figure!).
