This is a HOT deal:

CompGeeks.com has the Creative Soundblaster Live!
card for $34. These are system pulls, which
means you only get the card (drivers available
from Creative website). This is cheaper
than even the worst (er cheapest) guys
on Pricewatch (you know, the ones who
have a low price, then charge you $10 or more
to ship a few ounces if they ever get around
to shipping it!)

I bought a couple, plus a couple of internal
audio connectors, and shipping was only
$6 to the east coast (for both plus cables).

I've never had any problems with CompGeeks.
They ship promptly, and they ship what they
say they have.

If you need a sound card, this is the deal!

Is this like SB Live platinum's sound card?
or SB Live Gamers?
or SB Live Value ?

If its anything other than the value card then this is a good bargain.

Let me know. I am buying a sound card soon.

Thx

its a model ct4620 which means its strictly a SOUND BLASTER LIVE! card

ct4670 is soundblaster live value
ct4760 is soundblaster live x-gamer, mp3+ and platinum.

all these card are confusing me...what the hell is the dif between the ct4620 and ct4760??

falcon:
if that is true, this is indeed a hot deal !

I will order one myself

Anyway I just looked at creative site and compared the ct4620 and ct4660 and found no difference whatsoever.

just the digital out i guess.

From the picture, it does NOT appear to be the SB Live! Value Digital. The newer digital cards which include the SPDIF for AC-3 sound have pastel colored connectors in the back. Very tricky, as they mention a "CD-Rom SPDIF in", which is not the same thing.

Oh well, almost a hot deal.

SBLive Value, Gamer, MP3, Plat all have the same sound quality and use the EMU10k eeprom.

This card is the SBLive Value version 1 with no SPDIF Digital output. Still a great card if you don't care about the 5.1 digital output (I have a DVD hardware decoder with 5.1 out, so it doesn't matter to me that much).

Ok here is the deal with CompGeeks.com:

It's true, they offer rock bottom prices on some of the better equipment out there. However, you may be thinking that you're getting a killer deal when in reality you're getting the short end of the stick. They often label the item *NEW* when it is refurbished. They're so unprofessional that when I ordered my DVD decoder card, they gave me everything (which was nice) but they BURNED me a copy of my software bundle. I didn't care since I got the drivers and other accessories off of the web but I still think it was cheesy for them to burn me a copy like I would to a friend.

A lot of places used burned software to bundle with OEM's. Even some companies sell burned copies of Windows when you buy a computer from them, and its fuly legal because you get a certificate and stuff to show its legit.

in all my years of buying stuff, i have never seen a reputable company pakage a burned CD with the merchandise.

I would be shocked if I opened up my new video card and found a "memorex" burned CD with the words "motoracer 2" scribbled on it in magic marker.

It's really a peace of mind that goes down the drain with burned copies of stuff distributed by companies.

bashman;
1. what is the story with http://www.hoontech.com/? are they in the US? have you purchased anything from them?
2. i have ordered a couple of things from compgeeks.com. they are small (that explains the cd-r and the poor website), but are doing a valuable service in providing "computer-show" deals on the web.
3. a general sound card question (for the audiophile), what is my best bet: i purchased a SoundBlaster Live Value 2 years ago from buy.com, beacause, as everyone knows, its the same card as the live, blah, blah... thinking i would never need digital i/o. well, i have come to the point in my life where i need em. i have some minidisc player/recorders, and a nomad2 which i would like to transfer audio. what venue should i take. should i get the SB daughterboard from hoontech? should i get another card from minidisco? should i get a SB live platinum with icing?

i tried to be brief.
tia.

Ordered this card from them a month ago...received it promptly too. Although it didn't include drivers, I just downloaded the Liveware 3 package from Creative and everything worked smoothly.

Don't forget the 10% Mastercard discount also!

I ordered the card...
I'm about 10 miles away from CompGeeks so I should have the Live! card by Thursday. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

So, from what I've gathered the card features the following:
- Bare OEM Card
- $34 +Shipping($6ground) +tax(CA)
- CDROM Audio cable is $.75 extra
- No Drivers http://www.soundblaster.com/liveware/
- No I/O daughterboard (No digital SPDIF for AC-3)
- Model ct4620 (stictly a SOUND BLASTER LIVE! card)
- Uses EMU10k eeprom - same as SBLive Value, Gamer, MP3, and Platinum.
- Live!Drive I/II compatible http://www.soundblaster.com/accessories/livedrive/system.asp?printmode=1
- Optical Digital I/O Card compatible http://www.soundblaster.com/accessories/optical-io/system.asp?printmode=1

???? Now where do we get a Live!Drive for cheap ????
