Hi,

I have been using a soundblaster live 5.1 for almost 4 yrs now, however it seems its giving me some trouble with some games such as half life, fear and gta. ...

i was thinking about switching to onboard of my A8N-sli deluxe

would i be better off ?

thanks in advance

I have an Asus A8N-E and have had nothing but problems after putting my soundblaster live 5.1 in a computer I was selling and using the onboard sound. I've just bought another Soundblaster card from ebay for next to nothing. You might as well give it a try though, what have you got to lose, you can just stick the card back in if you don't like onboard.

(my cop-out answer)

that would be the best choice. personally i'd probably try out everything right after i built my computer.

[edit]Sorry, misread your post. I'd give the on-board a try. You might have fewer problems, but your games may not sound as good with EAX 1.0 and 2.0.

The sblive is an eax2 card anyway.
I doubt onboard sound would be any worse or better than an sb live especially over computer speakers which are generally low in quality anyway.
