I've had my klipsch promedia's for a year or two now, I love them, but my soundblaster live! value card died the other day and I need a replacement.

should I get the sb live! 5.1 card? would it not be the best choice for these speakers, since the speakers are not digital 5.1 speakers, they are powerful analog 4+sub setup?

They are analog speakers but the sb live card is a digital sound card. It can do your digital decoding for you so...yes, it is a good card for the speakers and just about any other application you have.

Personally, I think you could do better with a Santa Cruz, Hercules, or Acoustic Edge.

the new 5.1 still uses more than 2 years old same emu2k chip, new bottle with old wine.
in your case, I won't buy sb live again, I'd rather try something else such as TB or Philips, they're also 5.1.

Verygreedy, I agree that the SBLive is better than those cards, but you haven't tried the latest three cards... The Santa Cruz, Acoustic Edge, and Hercules Game Theatre.

How does a sound card die? The onboard chip fried?

its kinda weird.. we had a thunderstorm here recently, the power went out.. I come home and my computer is off (its NEVER off) and I'm like WTF. I boot it and it freezes on windows 2k startup..

so I take all the cards out except the video, and it boots fine. I add the cards back one by one until I find the culprit, and its the sound card. I try it in another slot, and no-go. I look at it really close, and a tiny little resistor on the PCB had exploded.. you could see black charred electronics reeeeeeal small around it, and if you smelled that part of the card it smelled of burnt electronics. :|
