I slapped the ol' awe 32 in this win2k box, frankly because it's all i had laying around, and payday doesn't come for a bit now. The problem is that it doesn't quite work correctly.

I get sound, but if for instance it's playing windows logon, it cuts out at about 2/3 of that file (10 seconds?) and the spaces betwean the pauses get shorter and shorter. I'm wondering if this is a buffer problem or what...

has anyone dealt with this before? is it even possible to use? Do i *really* need to go buy a new card? I could actually use a new clutch right about now, so not having to get a card would be a *good* thing.

thanks for the help ahead of time.

Win2K has built-in drivers for the entire line of Creative ISA sound cards, so that shouldn't be a problem.

What you are describing is generally the result of incorrect IRQ allocation....ie Win2K might assign it to IRQ 9, when Creative ISA sound cards really only work properly on IRQ 5 or 7 (preferably 5).

Check the IRQ assignments, and if necessary, change them.

If you find that it still doesn't work...an SBLive Value OEM would only set you back something like $40, so it's not the end of the world.

it is assigned irq5, so i'm wondering if the card isn't able to buffer enough or something? I'm not sure.

I think win2k has problems with many soundcards including my mx300 (diamond).
I tried reinstalling all the drivers, changed pci slots, and also
changed the IRQs with the same problem of sound working for the first few
seconds, then cutting out.
It may have something to do with win2k's WDM support/mode but i'm not sure.
W2k does not work with vxds, which win98 does....and my sound card worked
well with win98. I guess i'm going back to win98se.
