Soundblaster Audigy-- Why No Rear Channel? Any Ideas?

I purchased an Audigy Platinum from someone on this board and, for the life of me, I can't get the rear channel to work. I've tried clean driver installs, checked and rechecked that I had the right plugs in the right jacks, etc. Front works great and sounds clean.

I've also taken my rear Klipsch plug and placed it in the front jack in the sound card and the rear speakers work fine... I've also tried placing a pair of headphones in the rear jack-- no sound whatsoever.

Now, I've also changed every setting in the control panel that I can to the 4.1 setting. Also, have done the same in the Creative AudioHQ program and repeatedly run the speaker test ("front left," "front right," etc.)... Problem is, there is no etc.. as the "rear left" and "rear right" doesn't work.

Is there ANYTHING that I can be missing here?

System specs:

KG7 RAID
Athlon 1400
512MB PC2100
VTek GF3
Linksys NIC
US Robotics 56K Modem
ATI TV Wonder VE
60GB HD
Windows XP Pro

Currently not using RAID

Thanks for the help!

After reviewing your comprehensive diagnostics I can only assume you have a bad card. Maybe that is why someone was selling a fairly new product. Contact Creative and get the card replaced.

Do you have the Surround Mixer software installed for the audigy? The Surround Mixer lets you set the speaker setup.

John-- I have the surround mixer and have made the appropriate changes.

Ronstang-- If the card is bad, the guy is standing behind it and will take it back and do the RMA himself.

Is there anything visibly wrong with the card? I dunno if it has a fuse or not. Is the female surround connector loose or mishaped?

I had the same problem. Check out this thread at viaarena.com for some interesting reading on abit and audigy problems:

abit & audigy problems

Bottom line is that it's probably a bad card. I replaced mine and all is working again.

slider94-- That thread is infinitely useful. That appears to be the EXACT thing that I am experiencing. It looks like I will need another card.

I had the same problem, try this:

-Go to Control Panel, click on "Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices"
-Click on "Sound and Audio Devices". This will bring up the "Sound and Audio Devices" tab.
-Click on the Advanced button under "Speaker Settings". This will bring up the "Advanced Audio Properties" tab
-Under "Speaker Setup" click on "Quadrophonic Speakers" and you should see the picture turn into 4 speakers.

Hope this helps.

This Audigy is going back to Creative... time to go back to the Acoustic Edge!

I don't know if I should blame POS Creative or POS Abit... I'll just give them equal credit...

Sorry to hear it..mine works fine with the PM 4.1s and PM 5.1s

Also, Live! Surround hasn't been around since the original Live! series... :Q
