I just got a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum for my son. I'm having an incredibly annoying problem installing it in my Dell Optiplex GX1P.
The platinum has an external Audigy drive that you install in a 5.25" slot. You can then plug microphones, musical instruments, etc. into it.
I've installed various other 5.25" devices into Dell's, e..g internal tape drives, CDRW drives, etc. Dell has these mounting brackets, and you screw the device into the bottom of the mounting brackets. This has always worked fine.
The stupid Audigy, however, is supposed to be screwed in on its side, not its bottom. The are no screwholes in the bottom of the Audigy drive. The Dell mounting brakcet has no way you can screw things in on the side, you have to screw in on the bottom.
I find it incredibly annoying that either (a) Soundblaster can't include 4 little holes at the bottom of its drive so it can be mounted in a Dell, and (b) that Dell doesn't have any way of screwing things in from the side.
Am I doomed? Am I going to have to pay $40 more to get an Audiby Platinum Ex with an external Audigy drive? Or is there some cheapie mounting bracket available in any store that will solve the problem?
It would be tempting to put the AUdigy drive in, without screws, and put some kind of padding around it so it didn't bounce around. I have a feeling I would regret that though.
Thanks for any help. Again, I can't believe that a $200 device has such a basic problem. RW
