I cant remember where, but I recently read that Creative is making an Audigy 4 line of sound cards. Has there even been a 3 yet?

There was no 3. The 4 is already out, but there's no 'real' difference from the 2's. Get a 2.

At least not until he takes a sharpie and marks out the "2" and writes in a "4" he won't!

I've already upgraded mine.

I thought Audigy3 was supposed to be a PCI-E showcase product, what happened to it?

No Dolby Digital live card from Creative

Not in the short term

MANY OF YOU have asked us about Creative Labs' mysterious PCIe sound card that is supposed to be a super duper Sound blaster Audigy 3. We learned that there is no Audigy 3 and that Creative Labs has instead moved to the Audigy 4 Pro card. This card is merely an upgrade from Audigy 2.
We asked Creative Labs about the PCI Express card several times and it has confirmed to us that now there are no any plans for such a sound card.

It seems that Creative is not working on a Dolby Digital Live compliant card that can do 5.1 encoding. So all of you sound lovers will have to stick with the Nvidia Nforce 2 sound stuff for the time being.

Creative might follow the trend and finally decide to go for such a thing, but that's not going to happen overnight.

But that's not to say that another enterprising company might decide to make such a card, and do so in the next two quarters or so. µ

I haven't read about or seen them but do you require a differant sound card for PCI-E ? I know there backward compatiable but are these designed for PCI-E?

Creative already can encode in 5.1 just not in real time.

As for your question Zinn, yeah. PCI-E is a completely different pin out than regular PCI. The Audigy 4 Pro is not backward compatible with anything as it is PCI only.

As was posted Creative has no plans for PCI-E. If i were Nvidia and VIA and MAudio and them i would get my a$$es in gear, and give creative a run for there money.
