Soundblaster 5.1 Question

Hi all, I'm really baffled over this and could really use some help.

I have a Soundblaster MP3 5.1 sound card. It has a digital out for Cambridge Speakers, or Analog outs for Front/Rear/Center/Subwoofer (So you can connect to your home theater setup).

Currently, I have this card plugged into my 5.1 Home Theater setup via the analog outs. (One cable for the fronts, one for the rears, one for the sub and center speaker).

The problem is, when I play DVDs/etc (anything with 5.1 audio), it seams as if it is all just being spread out to all the speakers. (ie: All the voices are coming out of all the speakers, and not primarily the center speaker). I have everything configured for 5.1 speaker setup, I have all the correct audio 5.1 filters installed etc.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to truly get the 5.1 surround via those analog outputs? Or do I need to go invest in a new soundcard that has an Optical or Coax output?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi freind, I am sorry that I am not able to be that helpful in this regard...
Just telling you what i know is ... that coax is not required ... to get 5.1 dolby digital or dts sound.

What i am amazing is that you have not specified which specific Sound system you r using?

Anyway... I am sure this will assist others who knows what exactly the problem can be!

Take care and God Bless!

I was unaware that the Live 5.1 (MP3) had outs for center and sub channels. I have the Live 5.1 DE version (I thought it was the same card, just without the software). There are just front and rear analog outs, analog mic in, analog line in, and digital SPDIF out. If you were going to use your home theater system, you'd have to settle for 4.1 sound unless you've got an adapter for the SPDIF out.

Isn't there some setting somewhere to enable 5.1 decoding? I don't recall. I have a Live! 5.1 Plat. and I can almost envision that button somewhere in the creative software.
