i have onboard sound on my mobo, but can i use a sound card and the onboard sound at the same time? the mobo has only 3 audio jacks and my speakers take all 3 but i want to plug in a mic that is why i ask

annnnd my case has a mic jack at the front but i dont see a place i can plug it into on this mobo is it possible and i just dont see it?

Sure, but if you're upgrading to a stand alone sound card anyway, why bother with the on-board? Most quality sound cards today will allow you to plug in several speakers as well provide a separate jack for your mic.

If you want more outputs (mic included) just get a soundcard. I bought a Creative Audigy 2 ZS OEM card for ~$65... 7.1 with jacks for inputs and for mic as well.

seprate sound cards take work off the processor and sound better. its like onboard video compared to a video card speeds up ur comp and is better. but sound card shouldnt really effect the performance alot.
