Sound volume help needed...

Hi Folks,

A friends dell p2 400, has a sound problem. The volume is very low in most applications, such as the normal windows chimes and in games, it's as if the output signal has been lowered. Strangely, music cd's play at the normal volume as well as some intro's to games but everything else has a lowered volume. Apart from making sure the volume control is up and the speakers are operating properly I'm not sure what else to try, any help is appreciated.

Specs as follows;

P2 400 Dell optiplex
64 mb ram
6.4 h/d
sound courtesy of (I beleive) an on board chip by crystal (?)

Thanks,

Kruger

I am not sure if I can help. When playing audio CD, I think the signals goes through the cable at the end of the CDROM directly to the sound card (on board), I think, and other times the sounds are decoded. You have upped all the volumes in the control settings? Maybe it needs a new driver?

uhm.....Control Panel, Multimedia, click the properties for the sound card in use (same as double clicking the yellow speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right of the screen) if you have it on. then you can adjust all you want.

The mere fact that you can here sound would suggest that it is a volume issue.

There also may be an additional volume control on the speakers themselves. Make sure this is turned up sufficiently aslo.

😉
